Young talents reimagined our creative legacy Budapest, 22 May 2026 – What is Hungary’s creative industry heritage and which ideas deserve the title “ReMade in Hungary?” Nearly 150 students from 9 institutions across the country, enrolled in vocational programmes in fashion, fine and applied arts, and beauty care, applied to this year’s “Get in the Picture – New Talent of the Year” competition, forming 41 teams, to answer this question. The top 12 contestants presented their projects to the renowned professional jury and programme ambassadors on 21 May 2026, at the final of the competition, organised by Creative Hungary and the Budapest Complex Centre of Vocational Training (BKSZC). The competition, aimed at promoting creative industry professions and strengthening students’ career orientation, did not conclude at the awards ceremony: the teams also won further mentoring opportunities and professional visibility.
The objective of the “Get in the Picture – New Talent of the Year” programme, launched in 2021, is to support domestic creative industry vocational training, offering students the possibility to showcase their talent to the public, and bring career opportunities closer to them.
This year, once again, young people training in hairdressing, cosmetology, decoration, graphic design, carpentry, or women’s and men’s tailoring were invited to apply in groups of 3–5 to the joint call of Creative Hungary and the Budapest Complex Centre of Vocational Training. Under the theme “ReMade in Hungary”, they had to develop concepts that combined Hungarian cultural heritage and traditional artisanal techniques with contemporary, sustainable solutions. Their creations had to reflect the values of the past and current social and environmental challenges.
Students were free to choose different methods, materials, and techniques. After the preselection, 3 teams per category had the opportunity to bring their projects to life within 5 months. Experts and educators working with Creative Hungary assisted the competing teams in experimentation and manufacturing processes. In addition, mentors also supported their teams in creating projects that are sustainable and viable in the long term. Thanks to this approach, several works have gained the opportunity to be showcased at further professional events throughout the years, and some projects attracted the attention of industry players.
The mentors who assisted the students were: Balázs Antal, ceramic designer; Attila Dóczi, visual artist; Dóra Eiler, ceramist; Adrienn Feller, leader of the ADRIENNE FELLER Beauty Therapist Academy, certified cosmetology instructor, aromatherapist, and mental health counsellor; Fanni Hegedűs, furniture maker and restaurateur; Ákos Lipóczki, associate professor at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME); Zsófia Marencsák, editor of the beauty section of GLAMOUR Hungary; Bence Sárkány, furniture designer; Daniella Sovány, founder of the brand DAN!ELLE, Tamás Szili, founder and managing director of Unreal, Melinda Varga, co-founder of CRÉEM, product development director, and Júlia Vesmás, creative industry mentor and leader of MOME Creative Launchpad.
The works created by the young talents included reimagined textiles, sustainable and 21st-century design concepts, visual installations, and object designs combining traditional Hungarian artisanal culture with a contemporary mindset. The completed projects were evaluated in the finals by Judit Osvárt, editor-in-chief of ELLE Decoration magazine, and Krisztina Maróy, founder and editor-in-chief of GLAMOUR magazine and Glamour.hu, considering creativity, innovation, professional execution, sustainability, and presentation. In addition to the prestigious jury, this year’s competition was supported by ambassadors Hedvig Jagasics, CEO of Sugarbird, Attila Ferenc Bálint, sustainability expert at IKEA, Róber Mascher, president of the Studio of Young Designers Association (SYDA), and Zsolt Kovács, CEO of KALLOS Cosmetics.
Based on the jury’s decision, the Urban Essence team—composed of students from the Budapest Komplex SZC Kreatív és Kézművesipari Technikum—took first place in the fashion category. The team, mentored by Daniella Sovány, founder of the DAN!ELLE brand, created a contemporary streetwear collection inspired by the tiles and colour scheme of the “small underground” in Budapest, using recycled advertising banners for its accessories.
The STITCHES team, the winner of the design category, created a functional room divider and a decorative ceiling lamp using old postcards as raw material, combined with embroidery techniques. Fanni Hegedűs, a furniture maker and restorer, served as a mentor to the students of the Győr SZC Sport és Kreatív Technikum, supporting the implementation of their project.
The first place in the fine and applied arts category was given to the Kolimpett team from the Budapest Komplex SZC Kreatív és Kézművesipari Technikum. The students mentored by Ákos Lipóczki, associate professor at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, reimagined the cards of the traditional Hungarian deck. By combining traditional folk motifs with stylised animal figures and modern visual elements, they also reflected the cultural and community-building role of the game.
In the beauty and personal care category, the team Herb Spirit won first place, mentored by Zsófia Marencsák, editor of the beauty section of GLAMOUR Hungary. The students of the BKSZC Erzsébet Királyné Szépészeti Technikum examined the connection between sustainable beauty care and modern science in their project, while they guided visitors through the process of mindful skincare, from plant cultivation all the way to the finished product, introducing them to the world of natural cosmetics made from natural ingredients.
For the first time this year, the jury handed out the Special Sustainability Award, rewarding the project that provided the most creative response to the environmental challenges of our era. The award was presented to the Mazsolák team, which competed in the fine and applied arts category. The students from the Budapest Komplex SZC Kreatív és Kézművesipari Technikum brought the well-known Hungarian fairy-tale characters Mazsola and Tádé to life using a modern visual approach. They reimagined their story as a new tale, conveying the ethical and cultural values of the original story to today’s children, with a focus on sustainability. The young creators were assisted by Balázs Antal, a ceramic artist and designer, as a mentor.
The awards ceremony was not the end of the programme: in addition to valuable professional prizes, the teams will receive further mentoring to help them with their careers. The first-place winner in the fashion category will have the opportunity to take part in a Sugarbird campaign photoshoot; the design category winners can participate in IKEA’s Sustainability Workshop; the category winners in fine and applied arts will have the chance to exhibit at SYDA, while the beauty and personal care category winners received Kallos products. In addition, Creative Hungary invites the awarded teams to its fashion and design industry events, including the Budapest Central European Fashion Week and 360 Design Budapest.
