VALODI is a multidisciplinary workshop, with a mission of sustainable functional art and spatial design. VALODI’s work is driven by the transformation and rebirth of materials, forms, and structures. VALODI objects emerge from an abstract understanding of form and space. The VALODI brand places great emphasis on contrasts and thus on the relationship between the functional and the irrational.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Áron Kovács
Áron Kovács, artist and founder of VALODI, uses the name VALODI to distinguish his design work from other activities. His aim is to create objects that provide real responses to real needs while maintaining functionality and authenticity. His mission is to develop sustainable design objects. He approaches recycling with a fundamentally different design mindset than designing from scratch, combining existing materials and their associated technologies with specific forms.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITED OBJECT
Relight - floor lamp
The Relight - floor lamp is made from PVC and concrete, featuring stainless steel light elements and porcelain sockets. The grey colour is drawn from the original sandblasted tone and matte texture of the PVC tubes. Each lamp is hand-moulded after heating, making every piece unique. Stability is provided by a concrete base, which counterbalances the otherwise lightweight structure that would be top-heavy due to the light element, porcelain socket, and bulb. The internal supports and braces are also crafted from remoulded PVC pipe, as are the dimmer knobs. Where the concrete base remains visible, the dimmer knob is made from reused concrete as well.
