This year’s 360 Design Budapest exhibition was a great success. A record number of over 5,500 visitors viewed the highlighted exhibition of Budapest Design Week from 9–19 October in the Buda Castle District, featuring nearly 400 creations by almost 100 domestic and regional designers and manufacturers. Even those who could not visit the Baroque palace in person will not be left without an experience. Through the exhibition’s online platform, anyone can freely take a virtual tour of the more than 1,000-square-metre exhibition space’s 3D version. More than 1,000 people have already viewed the designers’ works online, and the virtual exhibition remains accessible.

The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA) has organised the twice Red Dot Award-winning exhibition for the sixth consecutive year, making it one of the most important platforms for showcasing Central European contemporary design each year. It aims to draw attention to the cultural and economic significance of design by presenting the latest trends. At the same time, 360 Design Budapest is more than an exhibition; it is a meeting point where the design scene can directly connect with the audience, as well as a professional platform that provides opportunities for strengthening collaborations between designers and manufacturers. One of the most popular events this year, the Meet the Designer & Manufacturer, also served this purpose, which almost every manufacturer and most designers attended in person. Almost 200 participants visited the nearly full-house event, where they could directly talk to the exhibitors, gaining an insight into the behind-the-scenes of design and object making.

In addition, the exhibition draws attention to the importance of creative industry skilled jobs. In line with this, around 600 students from 20 vocational and higher education institutions took part in free guided tours provided by the HFDA and led by Barna Erdész, the exhibition’s curator. The pupils and students had the opportunity to explore the work of 10 Hungarian design manufacturers, more than 70 Hungarian designers, and over 10 regional designers — including those from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Ukraine, Romania, and Armenia — gaining a comprehensive overview of the latest trends in contemporary object culture.

Throughout the 11 days of the exhibition, everyone could find a colourful programme that best suited their interest and mood, whether they wanted to engage with design playfully or profoundly. The Sándor Borz Kováts selection, music and dance performances, creative workshops, roundtable discussions, and exclusive guided tours held by key design industry players, writers, musicians, actors, and content creators, attracted 1,000 visitors.

The online presence of the exhibition was also strong: 360 Design Budapest’s social media content reached over 1.2 million users, further enhancing the international visibility of Hungarian design.

Although the exhibition closed its doors on 19 October, 360 Design Budapest is accessible for another year through a virtual tour. By clicking on the information panels next to the objects, users can read interesting facts about the designers and the creations on the exhibitor subpages.
