The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA) will represent the domestic creative industry at one of the most outstanding events in international design, Milan Design Week, for the fourth time. Taking place between 7 and 13 April 2025, the event will feature works by 24 Hungarian product designers and fine and industrial artists under the Budapest Select umbrella brand in the 5VIE design quarter in Milan. The exhibition will be realised under the special installation by URBA Architecture Studio and Angéla Góg’s curatorial concept.

The Budapest Select – A VVoven View exhibition stands as one of HFDA’s most important international initiatives, focusing on promoting innovation, sustainability, and contemporary design culture in line with its strategic objectives. The exhibition showcases the progressive thinking of the Hungarian creative industry with a multidisciplinary approach – the spectrum of displayed works spans from traditional artisan techniques to digital developments and creations inspired by artificial intelligence. The designers’ unique vision reflects on our era’s social, economic, and environmental challenges and illustrates the diversity of contemporary Hungarian design.

The HFDA announced an open call for proposals for the exhibition’s architectural concept, inviting domestic architectural firms to participate. Based on the professional jury’s decision, URBA Architecture Studio’s plan will be brought to life at the prestigious design event. The studio has extensive experience designing residential, public, and diplomatic spaces. The planned installation explores how design can create connections between systems – whether human-made or artificial – in response to the theme “Connected Worlds”.

The exhibition’s curatorial concept was created by Angéla Góg, a product designer who has been exploring the interdisciplinary role of design in contemporary culture for many years. Barna Erdész, an expert in contemporary art and collectable design, also contributes to the project as a curatorial partner. Referring to woven structures and points of connection, the expression “vvoven” in the exhibition’s title emphasises the interweaving of different creative perspectives and design processes.

The displaying creators were selected in the open call for proposals announced by the HFDA. The call aimed to spotlight artists whose works reinterpret traditional applied arts values through a contemporary lens, placing equal emphasis on aesthetic quality, an experimental mindset, and the issue of sustainability. The submitted applications were evaluated by Attila Ledényi, founder of Art Market Budapest; Judit Osvárt, editor-in-chief of ELLE Decoration; and Dr Judit Horváth, head of the Contemporary Design Department at the Museum of Applied Arts.

The exhibition contributes to ensuring that the Hungarian design approach gains a prominent role in the international professional discourse, particularly along the lines of sustainable and forward-thinking design directions. The accompanying programmes – including wine tastings, craft demonstrations, performative events, and curatorial tours – enrich the interpretative layers of contemporary Hungarian design and enable the international audience to connect with the local cultural context.
